Meet Nathaniël Linssen, the new Subject Librarian for International Studies, International Relations, LUC and Law

We are pleased to introduce Nathaniël Linssen (he/him), who joined the university library team in December 2022 as the Subject Librarian for International Studies, International Relations, LUC, and Law.

“Hello students and staff of International Studies,

Some of you already know me from instructions, meetings, or the Subject Guide. My name is Nathaniël Linssen and I am the Subject Librarian for International Studies, International Relations, LUC, and Law. I started in December 2022, taking over from Bart van der Steen. I have a background in International Studies, International Relations of Japan, Law and Philosophy. Before starting in this position, I taught at the Technical University of Eindhoven, and worked for a multinational company in the Benelux. I am excited to be back at my alma mater.

My academic interests include nationalism, international security, political obligation and authority. I’m also very passionate about intersectional feminism and environmental ethics. In short, I’m always happy to chat about a multitude of topics with anyone!

What can you ask me?

As Subject Librarian I’m responsible for the library collection within my field, and handle all acquisition requests besides library acquisition generally. I liaise with faculty, other universities, and publishers. Additionally, I provide information literacy instructions for students, update Subject Guides, and am available for one-on-one ‘paper clinics’ for PhD students and academics to aid in their systematic review and gathering of relevant source material. You can contact me via email: n.f.g.linssen@library.leidenuniv.nl.

My free time is spent reading, hiking, visiting museums, and when the weather allows, ice-skating. Please say hello when you spot me on campus!”
