Internship

During the programme of International Studies there are various internship options. You can either do an internship as part of your elective credits or you can arrange an extracurricular internship.

Why do an internship?

It is not always the easy way out: arranging and doing and internship. However, it builds your resume, network, professional and personal skills and above all it often proves to be an important experience, as well as a lot of fun. These Internship smiles stories can tell you all about it.

Finding and arranging

First, you will have to decide whether you would like to do an internship as part of your elective credits, or an extracurricular internship. More information about how to arrange things in these two different options can be found here.

After you have made this decision, you can start looking for a suitable and interesting internship if you haven't found one yet. Do you have questions regarding this? Then ask for an appointment with the internship coordinator or join one of the workshops of Career Services on this topic.

Internship abroad

Why not combine doing an internship and going abroad? In this way, you can get the best of both worlds. However, make sure you prepare well!

BA and MA students who plan to travel abroad as a part of their degree programme at the Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University (either for study, internship or research/field work) must ensure that their destination meets Leiden University's minimum safety criteria in order to receive credit resulting from their activities abroad.
