Visit the Old Observatory

The Old Observatory is still used intensively as a university building. Yet there is still plenty to see and experience in this beautiful monument. Find out what the possibilities are here.

Visitor Center

In the basement of the Old Observatory, you will find our visitor centre. Here, we show a new exhibition on the interface between astronomy and society every year. Six days a week we have guided tours at fixed times. On these tours, we take you to see the exhibition and a telescope that is over 120 years old! The tour lasts one hour and costs only €10. In the weekends you can visit the exhibition as part of a visit to the Hortus Botanicus.

Private Tours

In addition to the walk-in tours at the visitor center, we also offer the opportunity to book private tours for groups. These tours are scheduled for a day and time suitable for your group and are available from as little as €95. A personalized experience for young and old, for friends or colleagues!

Open evenings

Monthly open evenings are also organized by one of Leiden's amateur astronomy societies. For only €4 per person you can enjoy an astronomical lecture and (depending on the weather) observation time with the telescopes.
