Old Observatory Leiden
The Old Observatory visitor center will be open again on Saturdays and Sundays starting June 5.
The Old Observatory Leiden is the oldest remaining university observatory in the world. This historical monument still plays an educational role for the University and the city of Leiden. On this website you will find information about the history of the observatory, as well as information about visits, the visitors centre, guided tours, events and the local amateur astronomy societies.
Our current exhibition is 'The Drake Equation'.

We offer walk-in tours. These tours will start at 11:30 (NL), 12:30 (EN), 13:30 (EN) and 14:40 (NL) o'clock. Due to the size of the dome, the capacity has been adjusted to four people per tour, excluding the tourguide. Prices are:
- Children under 4 years old: €0.00
- Chrildren from 5 to 18 years old: €2.00
- Students: €4.00

Tickets for the tour can be paid at the visitor center. Please note: since the tours are at daytime, it is not possible to look through the telescope. If the skies are clear, it is possible to look at the sun using our solar telescope.
We hope to welcome you back at our visitor center soon!
