Practical Matters

Going to university, and moving to a different country for it, comes with many practicalities that need to be taken care of. Think about your health insurance, getting a bank account for your regular spending, or getting your visa. You can find an overview of important information that can help you navigate these tasks below. Please refer to the menu on the left for more detailed information.

Apply for your LU-Card

All LU students need an active LU-card to access Leiden University premises, including your residential floor at AvB. Be sure to apply for your LU-card well in advance. If you do not have a Dutch address, you can have your card sent to LUC:

YOUR NAME
ATTN: Admissions Office
Leiden University College The Hague
Anna van Buerenplein 301
2595 DG The Hague

We recommend applying as soon as you are admitted to LUC. You'll then be able to pick up your card at LUC's Admissions Office during Introduction Week (Monday–Friday).

You'll find further details and application requirements on the LU-card website: apply for your LU card

To ensure a smooth arrival, you will be able to access your accommodation floor without an LU-card during the Move-in Days weekend.

Opening a Bank Account

It is advisable to open Dutch bank account once you move to The Hague (if you do not have one already), as it will allow you to get many other services such as a mobile phone contract, transportation, etc. More information about this can be found here.

Visa and Residence Permit
