Intro Week 2023 will take place from Friday August 18th through Friday August 25th.
The introduction week is your way to settle into LUC! You will get to know the other students in class of 2026, find your way around the city and your new home: AvB (the Anna van Bueren building).

11:30 - 13:00 | Get to know your mentors
As a start to this exciting week and years to come at LUC we want you all to get comfortable with each other in a fun way! Coming together as a group with people you don’t know can be a challenge. Therefore, icebreaker games with your mentors serve to let your group have a fun time, while also creating shared experiences that you can bond over! Essential: icebreaking is teambuilding. Team-building with people that are becoming your neighbours, study partners, partners in crime, friends and family!

13:00 - 14:30 | Community Lunch
The RA team would like to invite you to a Community Lunch on Floor 2. We will be serving a home cooked meal. This is a unique experience that demonstrates the community experience at LUC.
Remember to bring your own plate and cutlery! Drinks will not be provided so please bring your own water bottle.

14:30 - 15:15 | Introduction to Fortuna
During this event, you will have a first contact with one of the core organs of your (future) student life at LUC. Run by students, for students, Fortuna is the association responsible for the committees that you will get to know soon enough, offering all types of activities ranging from sports to arts and (almost) everything in between. You will get the opportunity to meet and talk to your student representatives in addition to the Fortuna board members.
After the presentation, you’ll also get the opportunity to buy some of last year’s merch!

17:00 - 20:00 | MasterChef LUC
MasterChef will take you on a culinary journey filled with delicious flavors. The activity will be to prepare a three-meal course to compete against other mentor groups. Each plate will be judged by a mentor duo, and there will be a winning mentor group. Put on your chef’s hat, sharpen your knives and let’s get cooking!

14:00 - 18:00 | Shops of The Hague
A little shopping spree might be just what you need to put a personal touch on your room. We will provide a useful guide created by our students to find your way around the shops in The Hague. Visit some stores in The Hague to decorate your room or buy essentials for settling in AvB. A number of mentors will accompany excursions to the shops in the document. They will be ready at 14:00 on floor 0 with a sign showing the logo of the shop they will visit.

Your first introduction to the night life in The Hague! Studio 582, the committee in charge of fun at LUC, has created a pub crawl of the city's best bars.
Meet up at 19:30 on Floor 0/the front steps of LUC. Make sure to be there on time so you won’t get lost in our exploration of the Hague. You will finish at Fiddlers, a LUC stable Irish Pub where you can chat, drink, and get to know more of the other first years.

The Student Life Officer, Lenore Todd, will introduce you to the RAs (Residential Assistants) and the Support System at LUC.

11:30 - 12:30 | Sex Education and Consent
LUC is a very international community. With so many people from so many different walks of life, everybody has had varying forms of sex education. This talk is a starting point from which everyone can get on the same page about a very important issue. The discussion, led by sex educator Lucía Lodi, will address topics including consent, boundaries, and sexuality.

13:30 - 14:30 | Neurodiversity and Disability Talk
This talk, given by Student Life Counselor Mariya Shcherbinina, is for everyone. Some of you may have come to university with a diagnosis of ADHD, autism, or other learning differences, and now need to navigate this new learning environment. Others of you may only start to get to grips with your neurodiversity during your time here. For those who are not directly affected, it's good to be aware of the issues your classmates may face and how approaches to learning vary in our community.

14:30 - 17:00 | Walking Tour The Hague
During the Walking Tour The Hague the mentor groups will walk past the important spots in The Hague that every LUC student should know. In a “scavenger hunt” style they will pass by useful places to get settled in The Hague. At the end, the mentees will get sent a document with a list of places that they visited during the tour including some fun extra places that were not specifically mentioned in the tour
Tip: while you are in the city centre, use this opportunity to get the props you need for your Airband Battle performance.

This evening is an opportunity to get to know your RA better. They will tell you all there is to know about living at LUC.

Tuesday 22 August
11:00 - 12:30 | Going Dutch / Being Dutch
This session will be split into a session for internationals and people with previous Dutch experience.
During these parallel sessions you'll find out what is typically Dutch culture or you'll find out what it means to be a Dutch student in an international programme.
1) Going Dutch | The Netherlands: a cheese-loving and rainy country with its strangely tall inhabitants. And for some of you a brand new home that you have to get used to. Quite a challenge, and therefore we are here to help! Flirting in Dutch, music and oliebollen: "Going Dutch" will cover it all.

2) Being Dutch | Joining an international environment like LUC is an exciting new adventure. Something very different from studying Rechtsgeleerdheid or Bouwkunde, with only Dutch students! We hope you are really excited to start this journey, but you might also be wondering what it will be like. Not to worry! In this session we will prepare you for what to expect as a Dutchie at LUC.

Typically, the auditorium is a place of academic study where the global challenges are solved. For one night in 2023, this space will be transformed into the ultimate movie experience in your comfiest pajamas! So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

After the Movie Night, students will be welcome to come down to Coasters for their first ever LUC party! There will be music and drinks, giving students the opportunity to have fun, socialize and get to know each other outside your mentor groups as well.

10:30 - 11:30 | Adjustment, Adulting, and Self-Care
Starting a Study Programme at LUC is not just about acquiring new academic learnings. It means starting a whole new life chapter (for many far away from family and friends) that involves multiple challenges related with autonomy, self-care, socialization and adjustment to a new educational setting and maybe even culture. Having the right resources will make a difference to better navigate these challenges and make the most of this experience. In this presentation, held by the Student Psychologist and Student Life Counselor Lidia Pardo Alba, you will be able to get a glimpse of the most important skills that will help you start this chapter in a smoother way!

This is the ideal place to discover what extracurriculars you can pursue outside of student life at LUC. There will be all kinds of different stalls: student associations, companies, social organisations, etc. providing information to students. There is also a bar and space to sit down and rest for a while.

Welcome to the LUC Hunger Games x Beach Day! The wide sandy beach of the Hague provides the perfect setting to enjoy and celebrate the summer. Are you ready to engage in a series of exciting and fun games?
This year’s Beach Day will be full of games, drinks and laughter, ensuring a lack of boredom and loads of fun! Students will be divided into new groups. Bring some sunscreen, smiles and competitive attitudes.
After the games (around 17:00) you will be offered a drink and some pizza. But you will probably get hungry and thirsty (!) before that, so bring some snacks and drink of your own.

The name explains it all: you will be guided through some of the most iconic locations across the beautiful city of Leiden in groups. University buildings, windmills, bars… you name it! The twist? You and your group will have to complete challenges as you walk through the city in order to earn points in true scavenger hunt fashion.

19:00 - 21:30 | Airband Battle!
The Airband Battle is a contest where everyone gets an opportunity to unleash their inner star! Every mentor group will showcase their dancing and lip-syncing skills to different beats in some fun costumes. Meet us on the final day of Intro Week at 19:00 in the auditorium and get ready to shine!

In this session you will be introduced to The Learning Mindset, LUC’s award-winning educational innovation team. Through a goal-setting workshop and by writing a letter to your "future self at graduation", you will discover how you can shape your education to be in line with your intrinsic motivation. And for those interested, we will hand out some free journals!
