In Baghdad, the two brothers, Taha and Asaad, collect metals and plastics from a famous waste dump known locally as the "Hanging Gardens of Babylon". When Asaad finds a discarded rubber doll and decides to keep it, the doll puts the two brothers' relationship to test. What begins as a strange find spirals into a clash of shame, desire, and survival, where love, war, and madness collide. Little did they know, their whole life will change because of this doll...

Hanging Gardens was Iraq’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards (2024).

Director’s bio

Ahmed Yassin Al Daradji is an Iraqi writer and director whose films focus on the communities of his home country. A Berlinale Talents and London Film School alumnus, his MA graduation film Children of God (2013) won the FIPRESCI Award for Best Arab Short at the Dubai International Film Festival and Best Live Action Short at Seoul Guro. His debut feature Hanging Gardens premiered at Venice and won the Jury Prize at Final Cut (La Biennale di Venezia, 2021).
