Two of GTGC's core staff members participated in the 2024 edition of the convention of the International Studies Association (ISA).
On 8 February, GTGC's Chair prof.dr. Jan Aart Scholte, gave a speech during the high-level dinner of the university's 449th Dies Natalis. The speech was themed around 'including the other' in research and focussed on the value of inviting and engaging with perspectives different than your own.
On 30 January, GTGC hosted a special event together with the Embassy of Ireland. As part of his visit to the Netherlands, John Concannon, Director General of the Global Ireland Unit of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, came to the university to engage in a discussion about Ireland's role in international diplomacy. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Alanna O'Malley and involved Ambassador Brendan Rogers, focussing in particular on Ireland's activities in the United Nations and in public diplomacy.
The GTGC seed grant project on Governing Digital Platforms organised a two-day workshop on 18-19 January 2024, bringing together scholars and practitioners from diverse epistemologies, positionalities, geographic regions, and disciplines – with a focus on ethics and (political) philosophy, anthropology, and legal theory to engage in dialogue on this important topic.
The GTGC programme featured as a special focus in the January issue of Leiden University's alumni magazine Leidraad. The article called 'Focus on Borderless Issues' included introductions and background information to the programme by prof.dr. Jan Aart Scholte and prof.dr. Antoaneta Dimitrova, as well as interviews with GTGC-affiliated researchers dr. Vanessa Newby and dr. Antonella Maiello.
During this lunch seminar, Yanbin Ma, PhD candidate at Fudan University and GTGC guest researcher, presented on issue complexity, strategic construct and cooperation among international organisations.
On 12 December, GTGC's Chair, Prof. Jan Aart Scholte delivered the Cleveringa Lecture in Istanbul.
On Monday 4 December 2023, the GTGC Seed Grant project with Glenn Aguilar Hernandez, Elena Bondarouk, Arjan de Koning, Antonella Maiello, and Daniela Vicherat Mattar presented their reseach 'Flaws in the flow. Investigating gaps in the governance of European textile waste export'.
During this Lunch Seminar of 20 November 2023, Ramesh Ganohariti presented his PhD research on contested sovereignty and politics of citizenship.
The Embassy of Ireland in the Netherlands and Leiden University's GTGC proudly presented the joint event ‘Building the League of Nations and the International Labour Organisation’.
