Q: When and where will the ISGA2016 Opening Conference be held?

A: The ISGA2016 Opening Conference will be held on 9-10 November 2016 in the New Babylon Meeting Center in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Q: What are the goals of the ISGA2016 Opening Conference?

A: There are twin goals for the ISGA2016 Opening Conference: introducing and opening the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), the new institute of Leiden University, and promoting dialogue between private and public stakeholders about their cooperation, communication and strategic interests when dealing with contemporary international security and global affairs issues.

The main topic of ISGA2016 is: 'Who determines the security (research) agenda?'. More than 150 participants will gather for two days to discuss current security and global affairs issues, the role of actors in dealing with them and the dilemmas and added value of cooperation between stakeholders in the field of security and global affairs. By means of a total of three workshops and several panel discussions, participants get the chance to get to know ISGA, its abilities, each other and find an answer to the main question 'Who determines the security (research) agenda?'.

Q: What would ISGA2016 like to see participating actors contribute to the Opening Conference?

A: We are hopeful that ISGA2016 participants will get the opportunity to get familiar with the four research and education domains of ISGA; being Terrorism and Political Violence, Governance of Crises, Diplomacy and Global Affairs and Cybersecurity Governance, and get a chance to directly communicate with a diverse range of actors on security and global affairs related topics.

Q: What can ISGA2016 participants expect from the Information Visits?

A: Participants of ISGA2016 get the opportunity to get to know the 'neighbours of ISGA' during an Information Visit of their choice. Wednesdaymorning 9 November, participants can select one organisation in the Hague to visit prior to the official opening of ISGA in the New Babylon Meeting Center in the Hague. During an Information Visit, organisations in the Hague offer participants the chance to learn more about the organisation and specific cases the organisation is involved in; all releted to the ISGA2016 main topic 'Who determines the security (research) agenda?'. Find more information about the visits on this page.

Q: How will people not participating in the ISGA2016 Opening Conference be informed about ISGA and general outcomes of the conference?

A: Participants not able to participate in ISGA2016 can send an email to isga-conference@fgga.leidenuniv.nl and ask to send them the digital ISGA2016 Opening Conference Handbook full of photos and reports of the two-day event.

Q: What can I expect during my visit to the conference?

A: The ISGA2016 Opening Conference gives participants the chance to attend interactive workshops and panel discussions, listen to keynote speakers and network during informative breaks. See the full programme of the conference here.
