About Security and Global Affairs - ISGA Conference
The conference 'Who determines the security (research) agenda' will be hosted in the city of The Hague The Netherlands on 9-10 November 2016, and is organized by the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) of Leiden University. ISGA welcomes representatives from the public and private sector involved in global affairs and security issues. This conference will also be the official opening of ISGA as the new institute specialized in security and global affairs issues of Leiden University.

Main theme ISGA2016 Opening Conference
The main theme of the conference is 'Who determines the security (research) agenda?'. This theme will be addressed in three sub-themes:
1) Contemporary security challenges and global affairs in a changing global order
2) Current and new actors in security and global affairs
3) Added value and dilemmas of cooperation between stakeholders in the field of security and global affairs
Contemporary security and global affairs challenges such as terrorism, cyber-attacks, hybrid warfare and the scientific and societal responses, are among the topics of research and education within this new institute of Leiden University.
Facing these challenges requires dialogue and collaboration between various disciplines within academia, as well as between academia and other stakeholders in the public and private sector.
Such collaborations raise new questions and dilemmas, for instance about roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. One of the most important questions is what security issues or challenges to focus on and from what perspective? Who should take the lead? What's the added value of collaboration? The opening conference of ISGA focuses on these key questions.
By way of keynote speeches, panel discussions and interactive workshops, and by bringing together national and international academics and representatives from governmental organisations, the private sector, NGOs and think tanks, we hope to find answers to these and other important questions in the field of security and global affairs.
