Michel van Leeuwen

Michel van Leeuwen has a Master degree in Public Administration from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. He joined the Netherlands ministry of Security and Justice in 1994 and held different policy and management positions there. From 2006 he headed the surveillance and protection policy department in the Netherlands at the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Since 2012 he helps government and private organizations achieve a better cybersecurity by heading the cybersecurity policy department at the Dutch Directorate for Cyber Security/National Cyber Security Center within the Ministry of Security and Justice/NCTV.

Paul Ducheine - Netherlands Defence Academy
Brigadier-General Dr. Paul Ducheine MSc, LL.M. (1965) is the Professor for Cyber Operations and Cyber Security at the Netherlands Defence Academy and a Legal Advisor (Netherlands Army Legal Service).
At the University of Amsterdam, he was named professor by special appointment of Law of Military Cyber Operations. Since 2004, he is a Senior Lecturer in 'Constitutional Law & the Armed Forces', and a researcher at the Amsterdam Centre for International Law (ACIL).
He is a Visiting Lecturer International Humanitarian Law (University of Amsterdam, Maastricht and Groningen), and vice-chair of the Netherlands Research Forum on the Law of Armed Conflict and Peace Operations (LACPO).

Bob Hoogenboom - Nyenrode Business University
Bob Hoogenboom is professor of Forensic Business Studies. He is currently involved with the Institute of Forensic Accountancy (Instituut voor Forensische Accountancy), he is a member of Transparency International Nederland and of the Netherlands Intelligence Study Association (NISA). In 2009 he became a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE). His publications, amongst which his dissertation, concern research topics in the field of fraud and fraud prevention, integrity issues and public-private collaboration in the security industry.

Isabelle Duyvesteyn - Leiden University
Isabelle Duyvesteyn is Professor of International Studies / Global History at the Leiden University Institute for History and Special Chair in Strategic Studies at the Leiden University Institute of Political Science. Her research interests include the nature of war and peace in the developing world, irregular warfare and strategy, the history of terrorism and counter-terrorism, strategic culture and intelligence and rebel governance.

Stephen Kingah - United Nations University
Stephen Kingah has a Ph.D. in law from the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He specializes on the rules that pertain to access to medicines and vaccines, especially in the South.He takes interests in: the legal and political aspects of EU-ACP relations; international financial institutions; the African Union’s institutional architecture; and human rights aspects of accessing affordable health care in the South. As a research fellow at UNU-CRIS, he will work on the comparative regionalism cluster. He will focus on, amongst others, the economic partnership agreements that are being negotiated by the EU and ACP countries/regions.

Luk van Langenhove - United Nations University

Luk van Langenhove (BE) is Director of the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) in Bruges and Representative of the Rector at UNESCO in Paris. Since 2006 he is Vice-President of the International Social Sciences Council. He currently teaches at the VUB, ULB and the College of Europe.

Arie van den Hurk - Custodial Institutions Agency
Arie van den Hurk has been an advisor on knowledge management at the Custodial Institutions Agency for more than 10 years. Van den Hurk is responsible for the impact extension of the (scientific) knowledge on juvenile justice, forensics and custodial care.

Erik Voeten - Georgetown University
Erik Voeten is the Peter F. Krogh Professor of Geopolitics and Justice in World Affairs at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and Government Department. He is the Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Chair of the Government Department. Professor Voeten’s research examines the role of international institutions and law in international affairs.

Jan Wouters - KU Leuven
Jan Wouters is Jean Monnet Chair ad personam EU and Global Governance, Full Professor of International Law and International Organizations, and founding Director of the Institute for International Law and of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, an interdisciplinary centre of excellence, at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven).

Bernard Welten - National Police & Dutch Safety Board
Bernard Welten is special advisor for the National Police where he is responsible for a review of the education of leadership. He is also an associate member of the Dutch Safety Board. Previously, Welten was a police chief in Groningen and Amsterdam-Amstelland.

Paul Meerts - Institute of International Relations 'Clingendael'
Paul Meerts is Senior Research Associate at the Clingendael Institute. He combines this with his position of Visiting Professor in International Negotiation Analysis at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. Since 1983, Paul has worked in a number of roles at Clingendael: Head of Training and Education (1983-1989), Deputy General Director (1990-2006) and Special Advisor to the Director of Clingendael (2006-2011). In the past twenty five years he trained diplomats, civil servants and military officers in a hundred countries worldwide.

Dennis Broeders - Scientific Council for Government Policy
Dennis Broeders is a senior research fellow and project coordinator at the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy and professor of ‘Technology and Society’ at the department of Sociology of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. At the council, Broeders is currently heading projects on ‘the foreign policy agenda for Dutch cyber security governance’ and ‘Big data, privacy and security’.

Annika Brändström - Swedish Ministry of Justice
Annika Brändström is head of the Crisis Management Coordination Secretariat of the Swedish Ministry of Justice. Previously, she was a project coordinator for the Swedish Institute for International Affairs and Deputy Director of the Government Offices.

Ronald Prins - Fox-IT
Ronald Prins studied applied mathematics and went on to specialize in cryptography at the Delft University of Technology. He co-founded Fox-IT with Menno van der Marel in 1999, seeking to fully apply his creativity in developing innovative security solutions for highly sensitive environments. In national and international circles, Ronald Prins is the expert in the field of cybercrime and he is a popular guest on television programmes.

Marco Zannoni - COT Institute for Safety, Security and Crisis Management
Marco Zannoni (1979) is a director at the COT Institute for Safety, Security and Crisis Management. Expert areas include the response to terroristic attacks and crisis management in health care facilities. Marco was a member of several crisis teams, mostly in non-disclosed situations. Public known examples are: Turkish Airlines ('09), Queens Day Attack ('09), the Alphen Mall Shooting ('11), the Coronation of the King (‘13) and Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) (‘14).

Beatrice de Graaf - Utrecht University
In 2016 Prof. Beatrice de Graaf will be visiting fellow at St. Catherine's College, Cambridge University. She will be absent from April to September. During her stay in Cambridge De Graaf will be working on a study about security in the 19th century as part of her ERC Project "Securing Europe, Fighting its enemies, 1815-1914.

Adam Edwards - Cardiff University
Adam is Director of the Cardiff Centre for Crime, Law and Justice and a founding member of the Collaborative On-line Social Media ObServatory (COSMOS). He is currently Co-Editor of Policing and Society, Regional Editor of the European Journal of Policing Studies and an Associate Board member of Sociology.

Inge Hutter - International Institute for Social Studies
Inge Hutter is rector of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague. ISS focuses on policy-oriented critical social science and was founded in 1952. The Institute in The Hague is part of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

Simone Filippini - Cordaid
Simone Filippini has been Cordaid’s Chief Executive Officer since October 2013. Previously, she worked as Consul General to the Southeast of the U.S. and as Dutch ambassador to Macedonia. During her international career, Filippini also worked as Head of Division in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2003 to 2007, she was actively engaged in keeping women’s rights on the Dutch and international agenda. Prior to this, she dealt with a wide range of topics within the ministry. She started her career at a commercial conference organization.

Jozias van Aartsen - City of The Hague
Jozias Johannes van Aartsen is the Mayor of The Hague. In this capacity, he chairs the Municipal Council and the Municipal Executive (college van burgemeester en wethouders).

Stavros Zoudiris - Tilburg University
Stavros Zoudiris is an academic lecturer at Tilburg University. His research focusses on the question how governments can influence societal events by using law and law enforcement. From 2005 till 2010 he was also director General Judicial Strategy at the Ministry of Security and Justice.

Ingrid van Engelshoven - City of The Hague
Deputy Mayor Ingrid van Engelshoven is The Hague's alderman for the Knowledge Economy, International Affairs, Youth and Education as well as the Haagse Hout and Loosduinen districts.

Arjen Boin - Leiden University
Arjen Boin is Professor of Public Institutions and Governance at the Institute of Political Science, Leiden University. Before he moved to Leiden, he was a professor of public governance and crisis management at the Utrecht School of Governance. He is an adjunct professor at the Public Administration Institute, Louisiana State University. He is also a managing partner at Crisisplan BV and a founding member of the European Societal Security Research Group.

Barend van der Meulen - Rathenau Institute
Barend van der Meulen has over 25 year experience in science policy, and research on the dynamics of science and science policy, and on the policy instruments used for science policy. Barend van der Meulen's publications have examined diverse aspects research policy including research evaluation, foresight and research funding, the 'Europeanization' of science, impact of science. He has several publications on history and development of the Dutch research system.

Dick Schoof - National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism
Dick Schoof is the current National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism of the Netherlands. From late 2010 to early 2013, Dick Schoof was Director-General for the Police at the Ministry of Security and Justice, where one of his main tasks was setting up the national police force. On 1 March 2013, Mr Schoof became the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security, being responsible for Cyber Security, Counterterrorism as well as Crisis Management.

Ivar Nijhuis - Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice
Since July 2016 Ivar Nijhuis is head of Communications of the Ministry of Security and Justice. Since 2015 Nijhuis has been the program director for the MH17 airplane crash investigation at the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security. Before that, Nijhuis was director of Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
In 2014, Nijhuis was awarded due to his excellent performace during the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague.
