Dear friends of the institute,
In the following statement we would like to inform you of a ransomware incident at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo (NVIC) in which your personal information might have been involved. The University of Leiden administrates this institute. Related to the transition to working from home as a result of the corona crisis, the investigation into this incident has been delayed. This statement is issued later than under normal circumstances would have been the case, for which we ask your understanding.
A message from our director
I’m Laurence Peelen and I am the new intern at the NVIC. I just finished my BA Islam Studies at the Radboud University Nijmegen and I wanted to gain some more experience in the MENA region at the start of my Master’s program.
For the second time in a row the NVIC Library is organizing a book fair for a good cause! The proceeds of this edition will go to Qalb Kabeer NGO, an organisation that is running a literacy and arts activities program for children living on Dahab Island.
NVIC would like to invite you to Tilly Mulder's second exhibition. This time around a new series of paintings, names 'Mindscapes', will be on show.
Coming semester Karen Vet will be joining our team as the new intern. She has a BA in Middle Eastern Studies from Leiden University, specializing in Arabic language and culture.

The international congress will be held at Leiden University on Wednesday the 21st of August until Sunday the 25th of August 2019.
