Development education building (preparation phase)

Work on the buildings for the Faculty of Humanities is continuing. Planning has begun for a modern, future-proof education building on the site of the current Reuvens building. The new education building is scheduled for completion in mid-2031.

Current status and outlook

It is currently being assessed whether Reuvens will be demolished or partially renovated. What we do know is that there will be a modern, energy-neutral teaching building with an attractive catering facility and terrace for students and staff. Central student services desks, study spaces and a living room will make for a pleasant, lively environment for students.

The design

The image at the top of this page was created by urban design practice KCAP and is for illustrative purposes. The design for the new educational building to be developed will be created by an (yet to be selected) architect.

Key Timeline

  • Start of planning phase: April 2026
  • Final design for New Reuvens: October 2028
  • Redevelopment/new build: 2029
  • Completion of the new or refurbished building: mid-2031

Communication

Although it will take several years before the work begins, we are already considering how best to engage and inform the surrounding community. Communication about this project is expected to start in late 2026 or early 2027.
