Winter Programme Old Observatory: visit exclusively with tours

The winter season is almost here and so is the end of our exhibition More-than-Planet. From 1 November, you can only visit us with exclusive guided tours. During this tour, you will visit one of our historical telescopes and we will take you through the More-than-Planet exhibition.

At the Old Observatory Leiden, we think it is important that as many people as possible can visit us to experience Leiden's rich astronomical history and see changing exhibitions. At the same time, we work with a small team of enthusiastic volunteers and students who are not permanently available. Therefore, from 1 November we will only open for guided tours at fixed times.

During this tour, we will take you through the history of Leiden astronomy using our astrograph telescope. This telescope is over 120 years old and still working!

Then we visit our exhibition More-than-Planet. This exhibition of five artworks deals with the relationship between humanity, technology and the planet and is designed to really make you think. You can read more about the exhibition here.

We offer guided tours almost every day of the week at the following times:

  • Tuesdays to Fridays:
    • 13:30-14:30
    • 15:00-16:00
  • Saturday and Sunday:
    • 11:30-12:30
    • 13:00-14:00
    • 14:30-15:30

Participation in the guided tour can be as little as €8 per person. To join a tour, you need to book a place in advance.
