Each year between 50 and 60 students initiate their bachelor studies at LAS. This programme is largely taught in Dutch, although some courses are also given in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

During the three years of the programme the students receive a comprehensive academic formation in the modern political and social history of the region and its several cultural expressions, including literature, mass media, and the like. In addition to this, they acquire a solid knowledge of the Spanish and the Portuguese languages. In the second year all students spend a semester studying in Latin America (at partner universities in Brazil and Chile).
