LAS has been quite successful in attracting talented young scholars to the PhD programme.

Today a large contingent of PhD students, coming largely from Brazil, Chile and Mexico, are writing their doctoral dissertations under the supervision of members of the LAS staff. Many of these students come with a scholarship from their country: the Brazilian CAPES and CNPq, Becas Chile and Mexican CONACYT. Yearly an average of 4 PhD students working on Latin America and the Caribbean obtain a doctorate diploma at the Faculty of Humanities.
