For students
This is the main information for students at Leiden University about all face-to-face teaching being cancelled and University buildings closed.
There will be no more face-to-face teaching until the end of this academic year. As of 23 March, we will resume classes through remote teaching.
In more detail, this has the following consequences for students:
- As of 23 March, as much of our teaching as possible will resume through remote teaching. For more information about when and how the online teaching and assessment will be delivered, see the student website. Also follow our daily updates.
- The coronavirus may cause students to suffer a delay in their studies. Students who are prevented from meeting the requirements of the Binding Study Advice (BSA) for their study programme will be given an extension. More information here
- We are still looking into how to deal with exams planned in this period. We appreciate that this lack of clarity is frustrating. Please follow our daily updates
- All study facilities and buildings are closed to students:
- All study facilities at the University Library are closed. Read more about the limited lending services at the Library.
- The University Sports Centre, Plexus and Beehive are closed (both the sports facilities and the study facilities.)
- Plexus Front Office is physically closed, but can be contacted by phone and email. If you are a student and have an appointment with a member of staff from the Student Support Service, this appointment will go ahead as planned.
- As of 18 March, the Gravensteen building and the University Shop (located in Plexus) are closed to all.
- Please continue your studies at home. It is still possible to lend and return books from the University Library by using the book lockers in the University Library, Wijnhaven, Van Steenis and the Pieter de la Court Building.
- The University elections are postponed until further notice. You will no longer be able to stand as a candidate on Tuesday 17 and 18 March; this has been cancelled.
- Students who have study-related trips abroad planned, or are already abroad: please check the information listed at the travel advice for students.
We appreciate that these are far-reaching decisions that may have all manner of effects, on your studies for instance. We are trying to anticipate any problems that may arise, but may not yet have been able to answer all of your questions. We understand that this uncertainty is frustrating, but hope you will understand that this is an exceptional situation. Our own health and that of others is paramount now.
