A message from the Executive Board

After two years of pandemic and Covid measures, the Netherlands is opening up once again. This is encouraging news, for us too. Many of the restrictions are being lifted, but it is advisable to take care and to take your own precautions if that feels safe(r).

We are really pleased to be able to return to ‘normal’ in-person teaching once again, with no restrictions on student numbers. We will be able to do so in our buildings in Leiden and The Hague from 25 February 2022. And from 25 February face masks will no longer be compulsory – although you may wear one if you prefer to. The same applies to 1.5m distancing – although it is sensible to distance nonetheless.

For inaugural lectures, PhD ceremonies and other events, a maximum group size will no longer apply as of Friday 18 February. The restrictions on catering and sports facilities will also be lifted and the Hortus botanicus will be open without restrictions.

From 15 February, we can work half of our hours at the office; discuss this with your manager. And travel abroad will be possible once again. Read more about our travel policy on the student website and the staff members website.

We still encourage everyone to get vaccinated and get the booster jab, for your own health and that of your lecturers, colleagues and fellow students. And continue to think of others: give people space and respect their boundaries.

Remember to do the the Corona Check before coming to the University, and see the Campus Protocol for all the rules and regulations. And if you are a student and need help, please see what our Student Support Services have to offer.

We continue to be extremely grateful for the commitment, creativity, flexibility and solidarity you have all shown over the past two years. Our students and staff have ensured that our teaching and research has continued where possible, be it online or offline. We are so proud of what we have achieved together and are aware that the ‘new’ normal may take a bit of getting used to.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
