Update 29 July: start of study programmes and self-quarantine 

What is teaching going to look like from September 2020? And what measures will we be taking to guarantee the safety of teachers and students? Read about studying online and on campus

It is mandatory for our students and staff to quarantine at home for two weeks, when coming (back) from a country with a travel advice code 'orange' or 'red' issued by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Be aware that this also holds for participants of the introduction weeks. Moor information about compulsory self-quarantine in these notices: for students and staff.

 

Update 13 July: working on campus during the summer holidays

There will be more space to work at the University during the summer holidays. If, for whatever reason, you would like to work onsite (at your faculty, directorate or expertise centre), please discuss the options with your manager. Whether and how you will need to register or sign in differs per building. We therefore advise consulting your own faculty or organisational unit for the details. Please note: the circumstances may change once the teaching resumes in September.

Update 8 July: Library services during the summer and Caring Universities

Library opening hours during the summer months

A summer schedule will be in effect at the University libraries from 13 July to 23 August. The opening hours will be limited, but students will still be able to reserve a study space and the Special Collections reading room will remain open. Read more

Caring Universities: free mental health checkup for students

Leiden University and several other Dutch universities have joined the ‘Caring Universities’ initiative. The goal is to offer students free online interventions for various psychological issues. All students will receive a questionnaire, which will function as a mental health checkup. Based on the results, they may then be referred to free online help and/or coaching. Read more

Update 3 July: business travel and study-related activity abroad

Staff

Business trips abroad are not permitted until further notice, unless the Executive Board gives prior permission in writing. This applies to all trips, regardless of the colour code. For the time being, extreme caution is being exercised with approving foreign travel. Trips already planned must be re-submitted to the Executive Board for approval

Students

All exchange programmes in the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021 have been cancelled due to the coronavirus. Students may not travel abroad for study-related activities until, at this stage, 1 February 2021. If you have plans to go abroad for your studies outside an exchange programme, for example for an internship, the university can, in very exceptional cases, grant you permission to do so.
