Classroom course

This is a traditional classroom course.
The teacher and all students are present in the classroom.

Course description

For the Turkish 1 course no prior knowledge of Turkish is required. In this course, the students will be taught the basics of Turkish. This course focuses on learning to communicate in Turkish in everyday situations. The topics covered include greeting, introducing yourself and your family, telling people where you live, what you do, where you work or study, doing daily shopping, and ordering food/drinks. The grammar required is explained, and ample attention is paid to vocabulary.

All skills are covered: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. In addition to the Turkish language, the course also devotes attention to the cultural, historical and geographical context of Turkey.

After completing this course, you will be able to use some familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases. You will be able to introduce yourself and ask and answer questions about personal details. You will be able to interact in a simple way, provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help.

Course participants are expected to prepare the classes at home (two to three hours per class). The course is concluded with a test. A certificate is awarded if the participant has attended 80% of the lessons and has completed the test successfully.

Course material

For all regular courses (Turkish 1, 2, and 3), we use a syllabus developed by the teacher. This syllabus cannot be purchased from a shop, but you can order it from the teacher. As soon as we can confirm that the course will go through, we will send you all the necessary information concerning the syllabus.

The syllabus is intended to guide you towards level A2. After completing the course Turkish 1, you will have reached level PRE A1.
