Awarding first year diplomas

Last Friday, 24 October, International Studies had the first informal awarding of first year diplomas.

We had some experience with awarding ‘propedeuse’ diplomas in a more formal and en masse setting, but the informal atmosphere was clearly more attractive to our students, as we had many more student showing up for this event compared to two years ago (last year there was no event due to corona restrictions).

At 11.00 a lined formed in front of B2.12 where our Programme Manager, Jaap Kamphuis, was awarding the diplomas, assisted by his daughter Marija. From 11:00 onwards they were busy awarding diplomas for 45 minutes straight, draining the cup of coins for coffee/tea/happy hour drinks to the bottom.

After that, we filled up the cup of coins again and ‘first year graduates’ kept dropping by until 15.00. We awarded a total of 211 diplomas. Student who could not make it to Schouwburgstraat to pick up their diploma, can pick it up at the Student Information Desk from 1 November 2021 onwards (open between 09:30 and 12:30).

All in all, the festive event felt like a success. We were happy to be able to congratulate so many of our students personally with passing their first year successfully and we are looking forward to next year’s celebration!
