Saqqara Project 2019

This week the good news broke as the Egyptian authorities have given their permission to continue the excavations in Saqqara in 2019!

Security clearance for the combined Leiden-Turin excavation project was also approved (as always, with reservations). The excavation leaders Dr. Lara Weiss, Dr. Paolo Del Vesco and Dr. Christian Greco are obviously very happy and are already looking forward to starting the planning for the upcoming season. The excavations are scheduled to start on March 25, 2019 and will take place in the New Kingdom cemetery, where two small Ramessidic chapels were found in 2017. The team of experts consists of scientific staff from both the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (RMO) and the archeological museum Museo Egizio in Turin. The NVIC wishes this team of experts good luck with the excavation project and hope they return having made new and exciting discoveries!
