Our institute's 50th birthday

Dear friends of the institute,

Many of you will know that this year marks the fiftieth birthday of our institute. In 1971, our institute was founded as the “Netherlands Institute for Archaeology and Arabic Studies in Cairo” (abbreviated in Dutch as NIAASC). In 1999, we changed our name to the “Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo” (abbreviated in Dutch as NVIC).

Of course we had hoped to celebrate our 50th birthday this year, but due to the pandemic situation, we have had to postpone our plans. We now hope to organize festivities in the course of 2022, probably October or November. Please keep an eye on our webpage and newsletters to stay abreast of developments.

Best regards,

Dr Rudolf de Jong
Director of the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo
