Course description

Would you like to improve your fluency in Dutch by talking about everyday topics relate to University life? In this five-week course you will work on increasing your vocabulary and oral communication skills. Where necessary, you will also improve your Dutch pronunciation and intonation.

In this course, we will discuss specific topics, such as teaching committees, meetings, PhDs, and research applications, and alternate this with exercises for promoting fluency. Every week has its own theme. Participants should take into account one hour of preparation per week.

For this language course, you need to have a good command of Dutch (B1/B2 level). This course focuses on improving and perfecting your fluency in Dutch.

PLEASE NOTE: the course starting on 24 June is an intensive course, with classes on 24, 25 June and on 1, 2, 3 July.

Target group and admission requirements

This course is intended for Leiden University staff members and PhD candidates.

The course is intended for people with an extensive basic knowledge of Dutch: people who completed the Dutch 4 course or a comparable course at another language institute. In case of doubt, please contact us at talencentrum@hum.leidenuniv.nl

Course participants are expected to have a proactive attitude and to prepare the classes at home. Per class, you should reserve approximately one hour a week of preparation time.

• The maximum number of participants for this course is 10.
• The holiday periods can be found in the Academic Language Centre’s academic calendar.
• If classes are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, they will be added on to the end of the course. Please take into account that this may lead to the course ending a week later.
• The course level is indicated in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
