European Congress of Conservation Biology 2026: Advancing Multidisciplinary Solutions for Effective Biodiversity

Early Bird Registration is Open (till April 30th)!

The European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB26) offers five days of top-quality
symposia, roundtables/panel discussions, workshops, training courses, talks, and several
excursions and social activities.

On Monday, July 6, you can learn how farmers, citizens, and researchers work together to shape the future of Dutch agriculture in the Polder Lab (VrouweVenne Polder). You can also visit the Dutch dune landscape or experience how Dutch land reclamation generates novel ecosystems in the Oostervaardersplassen and Markerwadden.

Find the programme at a glance and the excursions on the website.

Building bridges for effective biodiversity conservation

ECCB 2026 aims to promote effective biodiversity conservation. Effectively reversing the loss of biodiversity in the world’s terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems is one of the greatest challenges we face.

However, effective biodiversity conservation requires not just the efforts of
conservation professionals but also contributions, commitment, and cooperation across many disciplines and sectors.

The keynotes cover three main topics:

  • They connect the field of conservation biology; what is the current state of the art and how can we learn from each other and inspire each other.
  • They connect conservation biology to all other disciplines necessary to achieve effective biodiversity conservation.
  • They connect conservation biology with crucial stakeholders in society to attaineffective biodiversity conservation.

Organizers
ECCB 2026 is organised by the Europe Region of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) and Leiden University (FWN/CML), this year's host, in collaboration with the organising partners Hortus botanicus, Wageningen University & Research (WUR), NIOO-KNAW, and supported by the Leiden Biodiversity Network.
