Maartje Draak Seminars

Date
Thursday 27 June 2024 - Friday 28 June 2024
Address
Universiteit Utrecht

This is an open invitation to all interested students and researchers to attend the Maartje Draak Seminars 2024, organised by the Celtic Studies Section of Utrecht University. The Maartje Draak Seminars present a unique opportunity to learn everything there is to know about Early Modern Irish (1200-1650) from two experts in the field, dr. Mícheál Hoyne and dr. Deirdre Nic Chárthaigh (Trinity College Dublin).

There are three main parts to the seminars:

1. In-depth seminars with dr. Hoyne and dr. Nic Chárthaigh on the Early Modern Irish language and literature for advanced BA and RMA students; knowledge of Old and/or Modern Irish required.

2. Public Lectures on Irish Bardic Poetry and Early Modern Irish Romantic Tales, open to all students and interested parties

3. Public Screening of the documentary Ó Bhéal on the use of the Irish language in the Irish hiphop scene, open to all students and interested parties

Students who would like to attend the full programme may earn 1 ECTS by completing an assignment. Students who would like to attend the full event but who are not advanced BA-students, or who do not have any prior knowledge of Old or Modern Irish, may send an email to n.stam@uu.nl, detailing their motivation to take part. We will then evaluate their application.

It is also possible to attend only the public events, such as the lectures and the documentary screening.

In all cases, please register through the form on our website.

We look forward to seeing many of you at this festive occasion!
