The final steps to the PhD defence are the graduation formalities. When you are ready to proceed to the defence procedure, you must initiate the graduation formalities in LUCRIS. You will have to submit the manuscript of your dissertation to your supervisors for approval.

Submission of your dissertation

You must complete a number of steps that can be found on the university website.  

Note that PhD candidates of the Faculty of Science are required to provide the following copies of your dissertation: 

• Four printed copies to the Leiden University Libraries (UBL). 
• A digital version to the Leiden University Libraries (UBL). 
• Two printed copies (including the propositions) to the Beadle’s office, no later than three weeks before the date of the defence. 
• Two printed copies to the Graduate School Office FWN – Graduate School of Science.

• As many printed copies as required to the Examining Committee.
