Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on the groundbreaking translation of Imam Raghib al-Isfahani's seminal ethical treatise, "The Art of Cultivating Noble Character" (White Thread Press, 2024). With this illuminating book talk, author Dr. Yasien Mohamed will delve into Isfahani's timeless exploration of moral virtue, the soul, and spiritual refinement, seamlessly integrating Qur'anic principles with philosophical depth.
The presentation will introduce Raghib Al Isfahani, the meaning of Islamic virtue ethics, and key concepts, such as the role of wealth in support of moral character, and the principle of habituation in the nurturing of the virtues.
About the speaker
Yasien Mohamed is an Emeritus Professor of Arabic Studies and Islamic Philosophy at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Ethics from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt. A prolific scholar, Professor Mohamed has written extensively on classical Islamic philosophy, Islamic psychology, Qur'anic ethics, and modern Islamic thought, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles to his credit. His book publications include Fiṭrah: The Islamic Concept of Human Nature, and The Path to Virtue, for which he was honoured with the prestigious World Prize Book of the Year Award from the Republic of Iran.
