Course description

This course is designed for students who prefer to attend classes once a week. It covers the second half of the material from the regular Dutch Module 3, which normally runs twice a week.

In Module Dutch 3B, all core language skills are practised — speaking, listening, writing and reading. The course explores Dutch grammar and sentence structures in greater depth. During the first lesson, students receive a course reader to help strengthen and expand their productive language skills. New vocabulary is introduced through accessible texts on themes such as traditions within and beyond the Netherlands.

The focus of the course is on speaking and on developing accurate and natural use of Dutch. Students are expected to participate actively and to allow approximately three hours of preparation time per lesson.

At the end of Module Dutch 3B, there is an assessment. Upon passing the assessment, students may progress to Module Dutch 4A.

Course material

  • Nederlands in actie by Berna de Boer et al.
    ISBN 9789046908426

The course material is not included in the registration fee. Course participants are required to purchase course materials themselves.

In addition, the course makes use of a reader, which is handed out during the first lesson. This reader has been developed by the teaching staff of the Academic Language Centre.

Target group and admission requirements

Dutch Module 3B is a follow up course to Dutch Module 3A. Others are required to take an entry test to determine whether their level of Dutch is sufficient. To arrange an appointment, please contact us at: talencentrum@hum.leidenuniv.nl
