Recently, the BAIS Alumni Association organised their yearly reunion. Due to the current circumstances, there was a twist: the reunion – as many events that are currently being organized – took place online. This was a perfect solution for a Bachelor programme that finds its students from all over the world; there were people present from various time zones.

Career preparation, whether or not present in the curriculum, is becoming increasingly prominent in many educational institutes. Atse Fokkens (39) notices this in his work as a career adviser and internship coordinator. He welcomes the fact that more attention is being paid to preparing students for the labour market.

For PRINS 2019, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRCMT) presented the case ‘Impact and legacies of the Yugoslav and Rwandan Tribunals’. Established by the United Nations, the IRCMT (referred to as the ‘Mechanism’) has the mandate to take over essential continuing functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) which are tracking and prosecution of remaining fugitives, judicial proceedings, cases referred to national jurisdictions, protection of victims and witnesses, enforcement of sentences, assistance to national jurisdictions and preservation and management of archives.

Each year a lot of effort is being put into getting you to fill out the National Student Survey (NSE). In the past you were offered apples, biscuits and this year it includes a donation to charity and if you are lucky a coffee card. You may wonder why that is.

We understand the unfortunate uncertainty surrounding study abroad from September 2020. We are assuming it will proceed as usual, but it is currently impossible to know for sure if all travel restrictions will have been lifted.
