April 2: Make your choice at the Minor information Market (in Leiden)

In the third year all students have 30 EC of Elective Credits to spend on courses outside of their programme. Students who are not going abroad or take an internship will do a minor. A minor is a cohesive package of subjects worth 30 EC. Students can choose to follow a minor programme at Leiden University, at another university or build their own minor (Elective credits package).

Elective Credits
All information regarding the Elective Credits can be found on this webpage.

Humanities Minor Information market
On April 2th the annual Humanities Minor Information market was supposed to take place, but due to the current situation caused by COVID-19, the market is cancelled. Please use this website as a starting point when looking for a minor, and approach your Coordinator of Studies if you have any questions.

Workload per semester
Some minors have all courses (30 EC) in the first semester, others run both semesters (2x 15 EC). Next to your Elective Credits you will also need to take 30 EC of courses at International Studies. Depending on your choices for the Elective Credits, you can take all courses within the programme in the second semester or take the thesis and thesis seminar in the first semester (15 EC) and take PRINS and Languages & Practice in the second semester (15 EC).

A minor at another university
You can take courses at another university as a guest student. Procedures for enrollment differ between the universities. Make sure to check the procedure and possibilities for guest students in time and also check the amount of credits and the schedule.

Approval
If you take a minor at another university, or if you want to build your own minor, please make sure to ask approval from the board of examiners before you start your courses. For more information see this webpage

Use your Elective Credits to prepare for a Master
You could use the courses in the Elective Credits to get accepted into a specific Master after your studies (or shorten a pre-master). It is therefore important to start thinking about which Master you would like to do and already look into the entry requirements. The Master's Open Day  will take place on March 13th
Find out more about it and register here.

Q&A session with coordinators of studies:
On March 10th from 17-18 hrs Wijnhaven 2.58 we are organizing a Q&A session regarding the Elective Credits. If you have questions you are invited to join us so we can answer them. Please note that questions regarding the internship or studying abroad should be addressed to the relevant coordinators for these topics (Internships: Atse Fokkens or Study Abroad: Wencke Appelman).
