Brain and Education Lab

The Brain and Education lab is a research group in the Institute of Education and Child Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. We use a Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience approach to study the development of complex cognitive processes involved in learning and academic skills such as reading comprehension, mathematics, and spatial abilities.

We focus on one of the most exciting phases in child development; the transition from late childhood to early adolescence, relating changes in behavior to cognitive and brain development. Our goal is to integrate insights across the whole knowledge chain, from core mechanisms of learning to methods of instruction, and to provide insights into the most optimal conditions for learning across development.
