Telders Case 2027

Case Concerning Strategic Technologies, Maritime Interdiction, and High-Altitude Operations

Case 2027

The case for the 50th edition of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition concerns a dispute between the Kingdom of Haaland and the Federation of Messis, arising against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions, the growing importance of strategic technologies, and national security concerns.

Participants will examine the legality of Messis’ extraterritorial economic measures targeting foreign companies involved in the trade of advanced semiconductor technologies, as well as its establishment and enforcement of a maritime interdiction regime in the Strait of Marta. The case further concerns the destruction of a high-altitude unmanned platform, giving rise to proceedings before the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization and an appeal against the Council’s decisions before the International Court of Justice.

The case offers students an opportunity to explore contemporary legal issues spanning several areas of public international law, including the law of State jurisdiction, the law of the sea, international aviation law, and international dispute settlement.
