Young Star Award
In 2018, Leiden astrophysicist Ewine van Dishoeck won the Kavli Prize in Astrophysics. At the Faculty's New Year's Reception 2019, she announced that she would start a new award for young science talents, financed by her prize money: the Young Star Award.
The Young Star Award is awarded yearly to a student who completed his or her bachelor’s thesis at the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. Each of the bachelor’s programmes may nominate a student. A jury selects the winner based on the quality of the thesis. The winner is announced at the Faculty's New Year's Reception in January 2020. The prize consists of 2,500 euros.
