MOU Signing Between Leiden University And ACTA

On Monday, 15 February 2016, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor Corinne Hofman of the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University and Professor Albert Feilzer from the Academic Centre for Dentistry (ACTA), University of Amsterdam and VU University, Amsterdam.

Academic collaboration and exchange

With this MOU, Leiden University and ACTA aim to promote mutual understanding between the two institutions and advance educational and academic exchange and collaboration. During the event, NEXUS1492 PhD researcher Kirsten Ziesemer presented a short overview of existing partnerships and future directions for collaboration.

The institutions have jointly published a paper in Scientific Reports titled Intrinsic challenges in ancient microbiome reconstructions using 16S rRNA gene amplification. The newly signed MOU will facilitate an increased collaboration between the institutions. Through collaboration with ACTA, the Faculty of Archaeology will gain bioinformatics support and access to the LISA Cluster, a computing facility for organisations in need of large computing capacities for data processing and analysis. In addition, the MOU will support the exchange of innovative research methods in the fields of molecular biology and dentistry.

The Faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University and the Academic Centre for Dentistry are looking forward to further developing the exchange between students and staff, organising joint conferences and symposia and expanding collaborations on research and data analysis methods.
