Why I chose Leiden University
A couple of years ago I decided to go to Leiden University and I'm sure that it was the best choice I could make. However, it was not easy considering the characteristics that I was looking for. First, I was particularly interested in a program that offered me a specialization in international business law and just a few universities (including Leiden) offer these type of courses.
Second, I wanted to explore a new country which cultural variety to provide me with a really international experience.
Third, the most important element for my decision to study at Leiden University, was the possibility to get the best education as possible. In conclusion, I was convinced that Leiden offered great exposure as well as top professors. I was able to find in Leiden, and in the Netherlands, all the elements required for a great educational and life experience.
What I’m Doing Now
I'm working as a Sr. Corporate Counsel for an investment fund specialized in family-owned enterprises named EFM Capital. Here, I focus on the legal matters of the analysis and restructure of the prospected companies, as well as to participate in the process of merges and acquisitions.
Currently, I'm living in Mexico in a city called Monterrey which is located in the northeast of the country, close to the border with the US. Monterrey and its metropolitan area is one of the top 3 cities in Mexico regarding the economic activity and it's where many industrial companies have their seats.
My Leiden experiences
Studying at Leiden has a special significance considering that it's an institution with a great tradition, the alma mater of many important scientists and home to professors that have made relevant contributions to humanity.
In that context, to study at Leiden was a challenge. From the first course, I realized that the level of demand was higher than I expected. Fortunately, I was lucky to have excellent classmates, who also became close friends, with whom we created a study group that allowed us to better understand each topic.
Regarding the town, living in downtown I was able to move easily and take part in local festivities. I enjoyed the town walking and riding through it, eating fish at the market, and getting together with friends.
Overall, my experience in Leiden was extraordinary.
My reasons for becoming a Leiden Ambassador
I proudly graduated from Leiden in August 2015 and moved back to my native country looking for new opportunities that allow me not to continue my career.
I strongly believe that by promoting Leiden in Mexico, we can contribute to having students chose other countries to study in besides the US, broadening their horizons, as well as to increase the recognition of the Leiden alumni.
