Why I chose Leiden University

The reasons for choosing Leiden among other universities in the Netherlands are multiple: its history, reputation, academic achievements and atmosphere.

My Leiden experiences

It still feels like yesterday when I recall my journey in Leiden. My program in itself was quiet demanding, especially for a fresh bachelor graduate from a non-EU country, though all our professors and lecturers were very skilled in guiding non-EU students to understand the concepts and methodology of EU law. During this process, I also found interesting connections between EU law and my domestic law. I believe the most valuable influence of this process is that it provides me a broader perspective of legal mind. I may never practice part of the knowledge I achieved in Leiden, though the mode of thinking I have learned will definitely accompany me in a life-long dimension.

I felt so grateful to have my classmates around me in Leiden. We came from different countries and backgrounds though it was never a barrier for us to be close. We were great companions and co-supporters both in life and study. The study group I had with my Indonesian, Colombian and Spanish classmates significantly increased our friendship and the efficiency of commanding the knowledge.

The town of Leiden is tranquil and vivid at the same time. I enjoyed the breeze when walking down the streets, the smell of sea and farm every Saturday in the open market and the Dutch language from my language class every Friday. In Leiden I got to know Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rubens, Van Dyck and other Dutch and European artists. Enjoying their masterpieces has gradually become an important and delightful part of my life. 

What I'm doing now

Currently, I'm working as a lawyer in Roca Junyent S.L.P., a Spanish law firm in Shanghai. Our major practice fields here are Foreign Direct Investment, Outbound Investment, Corporate Law and Intellectual Property Protection. Within my practice, I have actually applied the theories I learned in Leiden into practical legal issues.

My reasons for becoming a Leiden Ambassador

Personally, I've experienced the dynamic academic atmosphere in Leiden and I believe more young students from China also deserve it as well. Moreover, it would be a great honor for me to be connected and do something for Leiden from thousands of miles away.
