Research

Our research focuses on a number of subthemes, such as the history of collecting, the agency of museum collections, the ethics of collecting (including legal aspects), and the integration of humanities and technical research in exploring the collections.

Research themes

Our research focuses on the following themes:

•    History of collecting (including cohesion within the Leiden collections)
•    The agency of museum collections
•    Classification and representation in museums and collections
•    The ethics of collecting

In all these themes, social discussions on inclusivity, colonialism, restitution and slavery can play an important role. MCS explicitly aims to make itself heard in these complex discussions.
