About the Event
NATO and EU enlargements 20 years ago reshaped the geopolitical landscape of Europe and its neighbouring regions. Our event aims to offer a comprehensive assessment and discussion on the outcomes, present structural challenges, and opportunities, as well as the broader future implications of these enlargements, involving the context of the current candidate countries.
This event is organised by the ABBA student association.
About the Speakers
This evDuring our panel, you can listen to expert voices on the topic:
- Darius Semaška, current Lithuanian Ambassador-at-Large for Hybrid Threats; former Lithuanian Ambassador to Germany (2017-2020), the Netherlands (2012-2017), Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Lithuania (2009-2012), and Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the EU (2008-2009), among other roles.
- Henne Schuwer, current Chairman of the Peace and Security Commission at De Adviesraad Internationale Vraagstukken (AIV); former Dutch Ambassador to Washington (2015-2019) and Brussels (2010-2015), Director of the Private Office of the Secretary General of NATO (2007-2009), and Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU (2002-2006), among other roles.
- Dr Maxine David, a Lecturer in European Studies at Leiden University; Foreign Policy analyst, specialising in the EU, UK, US, and Russian foreign policy.
- Freek Janmaat, Economic Advisor and European Semester Officer at the European Commission Representation in the Netherlands.
The discussion will be moderated by Wouter Zweers, Research Fellow at the Clingendael Institute.
