About the job market survey
Every four to five years, the Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University conducts a job market survey among its alumni. In addition to the biennial National Alumni Survey (NAE), the faculty commissions this survey – with a higher response rate and more detailed information – in order to better inform prospective students and current students about the labour market and how to prepare for it.
The labour market survey among Humanities alumni who graduated from 2020 through 2024 was carried out at the beginning of 2025 via an online questionnaire. A total of 6,776 alumni were contacted, of whom 1,929 (28.5%) completed the questionnaire. A non-response survey was also conducted.
The survey examined the labour market position of alumni and the impact of work experience, internships, board and committee activities, and study abroad. It also looked at differences between bachelor’s and master’s graduates, international and Dutch alumni, their assessment of their degree programme, and how the results compare with those of the previous survey (conducted in 2020).
Non-response survey
To assess whether the respondents were representative, a non-response analysis was carried out. This analysis showed no reason to assume there were major differences between non-respondents and respondents in this study. Non-respondents did not differ significantly from respondents in terms of having paid employment, satisfaction with their degree choice or career development. On average, non-respondents were more likely to have paid employment, to choose their degree again, and to report a more positive reflection on their career so far.
