Modules

VIPP/VIPP-SD (the basic module) can be applied to most family situations. However, some modules have been adapted to suit specific target groups. After completing the four-day basic training for the VIPP-SD, professionals can be trained to apply these specific modules. We work together with various partners for this. The VIPP/VIPP-SD and these modules are described below.

In cooperation with international scientific researchers, the effectiveness of some other modules is currently being investigated in randomized control trials. These modules include the VIPP-SD for fathers, the VIPP-SD for couples, the VIPP-SD for families with twins (older than 6 years) and the use of VIPP-SD in the context of a decision regarding out-of-home placement of children. Modules are also tested to help (professional) caretakers/educators with the guidance of babies during the start in childcare centres, and with the introduction of solid food.

NAME:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline

(VIPP-SD) TARGET GROUP:
Caregivers of children aged 1 to 6 years with (an increased risk of) behavioural problems and/or problems in the caregiver-child relationship.

EFFECTIVENESS:
The effectiveness of the VIPP-SD on sensitive caregiving has been demonstrated through a series of randomized controlled trials.

FOCUS:
This method is aimed at increasing sensitivity and improving sensitive discipline strategies of the caregiver.

PROCEDURE:
7 home visits (introduction visit included) with video recordings based on a standardized manual. An intervener works with one caregiver and one child.

TRAINING:
Training courses for the VIPP-SD module are provided every year. For upcoming courses, see the website’s training calendar.

NAME:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting

TARGET GROUP:
Caregivers of infants from 6 to 12 months of age with (an increased risk of) problems in the caregiver-child relationship.

EFFECTIVENESS:
The effectiveness of the VIPP has been demonstrated through diverse randomized controlled trials: the method proved to be effective in enhancing caregiver sensitivity and improving the parent-child relationship.

FOCUS:
Improving the sensitivity from caregivers (supporting parents in recognizing signals, accurately perceiving these signals and responding to them in a prompt and adequate way), and the quality of the  caregiver-child relationship.

PROCEDURE:
7 home visits (introduction visit included) with video recordings based on a standardized manual (VIPP-SD, an infant protocol is available on request in which adjustments to the VIPP-SD are described). An intervener works with one caregiver and one infant.

TRAINING:
The VIPP for infants can be carried out by certified VIPP-SD interveners. For upcoming courses, see the website’s training calendar.

NAME:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting adapted to Autism

TARGET GROUP:
Caregivers of children up to 6 years of age who are diagnosed with (a suspected of) Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

EFFECTIVENESS:
The VIPP-AUTI has been tested in a randomized controlled trial, and its’ effectiveness has been proved with regard to diverse aspects of the parent-child interaction.

FOCUS:
The VIPP-AUTI module takes the behavioural characteristics of young children with ASD into account. Caregivers learn to understand the behaviour of their child better. The aim of the VIPP-AUTI is improving the quality of the caregiver-child interaction and raising optimal developmental opportunities for children with ASD.

PROCEDURE:
5 home visits with video recordings based on a standardized manual. Prior to the intervention, the home care provider makes a 15-minute preparatory video recording at the family’s home or in the care institution. An intervener works with one caregiver and one child.

TRAINING:
The VIPP-AUTI training course consist of several training days and the completion of a practice programme with a family in the target group under supervision. The training can be attended by certified VIPP-SD interveners and people with a proof of participation in the four-day VIPP-SD basic training. If you are interested, please contact us for the possibilities.

NAME:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting adapted to Child Care (VIPP-CC)

TARGET GROUP:
Pedagogical staff in child care.

EFFECTIVENESS:
The effectiveness of the VIPP-CC has been tested in both day care centres and among childminders in two randomized controlled trials. The method appeared to be effective with regard to different child care quality aspects and with regard to the sensitivity of the pedagogical staff.

FOCUS:
Just like the VIPP-SD method, the VIPP-CC module is aimed at improving the sensitivity and sensitive discipline strategies of the childcare worker.

PROCEDURE:
7 visits to the day care centre (including an introduction visit) with video recordings based on a standardized manual. An intervener works with one childcare worker and with 4 to 6 children in daycare.

TRAINING:
Training courses in the VIPP-CC module are currently not offered. If there is sufficient demand, a training may be organized (available languages: Dutch, English and Spanish). The entry requirement is the VIPP-SD intervener certificate/proof of participation in the four-day VIPP-SD basic training. Please contact us for the possibilities, if you are interested.

NAME:
Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting adapted to Foster Care and Adoptive Families (VIPP-FC/A)

TARGET GROUP:
Foster parents with a foster child or adoption child between 0 and 6 years of age.

EFFECTIVENESS:
The VIPP-FC/A has been proved effective in a randomized study in Italy in promoting positive parenthood of adoptive parents and reducing problem behavior of adoption children. The effectiveness of the FC/A for fosterfamilies is being investigated in studies in The Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom. The study in The Netherlands doesn't show effects on the sensitivity of foster parents. Results concerning the attachment and problem behavior of the children are expected soon. Studies in Belgium and the United Kingdom are still ongoing.

FOCUS:
Just like the VIPP SD , the VIPP-FC/A module is aimed at improving the sensitivity and sensitive discipline strategies of the caregiver. Attention is hereby paid to the specific (foster care) situation and to the behavioural characteristics of foster and adoption children.

PROCEDURE:
7 homevisits (including an introduction visit) with video recordings based on a standardized manual. An intervener works with one caregiver and one foster or adoption child.

TRAINING: Training courses in the VIPP-FC/A module are offered on request to professionals working with adoptive parents. The training lasts one day and is followed by a supervised practice trajectory. The training can also be requested as an in-company training. The training can be attended by certified VIPP-SD interveners and people with a proof of participation in the four-day VIPP-SD basic training. At the moment, the training cannot be offered to professionals working with foster parents because the effectiveness is still being investigated in that context.  Of course it is possibe for people working in foster care to be trained in VIPP-SD basic training.
