Scientific Programmer / Research Assistant Neuroimaging

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientific programmer / research assistant in neuroimaging to join the Methodology and Statistics unit at Leiden University, Institute of Psychology. The candidate will primarily be responsible for creating a user-friendly user interface for a newly developed statistical method for functional MRI analysis (in R Shiny and/or Python). They will also participate in workshops to teach researchers how to use the new method and interface.

• Program a user-friendly user interface.
• Writing help-pages and a manual for the software.
• Perform beta-testing.
• Maintain code and make it future-proof.

You will be working within the Methodology and Statistics Unit, a dynamic unit focusing on Neuromaging Statistics, Statistical Learning and Artifical Intelligence, Applied Psychometric and Sociometric Modeling, and Responsible Research Methods. In this project you will work together with researchers from the Biomedical Data Science department at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and the Data Science research group of the University of Essex. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of researchers and contribute to cutting-edge research in their field. What you bring

• Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., psychology, statistics, computer science, data science, etc.). Experience with neuroimaging (FMRI) analysis is a plus.
• Strong coding skills, particularly in R, R Shiny and/or Python. Experience with C/C++ is a plus.
• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Experience with presenting/teaching is a plus.

We also offer:

• An employment contract for (30.4 hours per week, 0.80 fte) as a researcher, initially for a period of 2 months, with the possibility of extension to a total of 6 months. This contract falls under the CLA of Dutch Universities;
• We do offer some flexibility in terms of workload and contract length if desirable (e.g., 9 months at .60 fte).
• A salary of a minimum of € 3377 and a maximum of € 4185 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (scale 9).
• A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP;
• Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week.
• Lots of options when it comes to secondary employment conditions; we can, for example, discuss options for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our terms of employment individual choices model, you can exchange leave days and/or salary for benefits such as an advantageous sports subscription or bicycle scheme, and we also offer child-care options;
• If your work allows it, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands;
• A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces. The University will also provide you with a laptop and a mobile telephone (if applicable for the position).
