Especially after the political turbulence in the USA, some point to Germany as the last ‘beacon of stability’ in the West. The German elections in September are therefore considered crucial for the rest of Europe. Since the refugee crisis, the country has experienced political protests that could radically change the political landscape. Over the last months, however, Angela Merkel seems to have regained popularity and could become chancellor for the fourth time. What will the outcome of the elections mean for the new global role of Germany?
