RegisterAbout the masterclass
This masterclass will address key professional skills that PhD candidates need to develop in preparation for an academic career, with a particular focus on academic publishing.
The first part of the session will examine publication strategies for different types of academic outputs, including monographs, edited volumes, book chapters, journal articles, and shorter contributions. We will then discuss in detail the main steps involved in developing and submitting a journal article, as well as strategies for navigating the manuscript revision process.
The second part of the session will consist of a hands-on exercise focused on participants’ individual journal submission strategies. Participants will explore how to identify an appropriate journal, how to develop a manuscript for submission, and how to navigate the submission process.
Participants are asked to:
- Bring their own laptops or other devices in order to participate in the online in-class exercise.
- Prepare for the masterclass by submitting, one week before the meeting, a one-page description of their research project and stage of the PhD, their publication plans or aspirations, and any questions they may have about publishing and academic careers. Participants will be asked to read the introductions submitted by the other participants prior to the class.
