The Office of Leiden University in Indonesia has been growing steadily over the years since its inception in 2015. As activities and networks expand, the office has a vacancy for an Academic Coordinator.

Leiden University Office in Indonesia was established in 2015 at the premises of the KITLV-Jakarta office, located at the compound of the Embassy of the Kingdom in the Netherlands in Jakarta.  KITLV (Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies)-Jakarta is part of Leiden University Libraries (UBL) in co-operation with the Indonesian Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Starting 2025 the office also functions as the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities Centre in Indonesia.

You will be part of a small but highly dedicated team and work in a dynamic environment. If selected, you will be offered a one-year contract with the possibility of extension based on a 4-day (32 hours) work week. Full‑time presence at the Jakarta office is required. You will be supervised by the Director of Academic Programs.

Main activities of the Leiden University Office in Indonesia

  • Support ongoing and initiating new academic collaborations with Indonesian Higher Education and Research Institutes;
  • Maintain productive relationships with relevant Indonesian governmental agencies;
  • Identify potential and viable research, education, and funding opportunities for Leiden University in Indonesia;
  • Promotion and branding of Leiden University in Indonesia;
  • Support and co-organize events with the Leiden Alumni Network in Indonesia.

Specific responsibilities as Academic Coordinator

  • Develop and implement strategies for academic cooperation and joint researchprograms for Leiden University in Indonesia in close cooperation with relevant faculties and staff of Leiden University;
  • Support ongoing and establish new academic cooperation between Leiden and selected Indonesian Higher Education and Research institutes focusing on (but not limited to) the core domains of Leiden University;
  • Identify new areas of possible research cooperation, also based on requests from Indonesian counterparts or Leiden University faculty;
  • Identify funding sources for research and scholarship grants;
  • Actively engage in building and maintaining a network with relevant counterparts, scientists, and researchers, international relations offices, government officials and other relevant counterparts in Indonesia;
  • Support and coordinate the setting up of selected double master program(s) and joint PhD programs;
  • Organize academic events such as lectures, workshops, seminars and conferences.

We are looking for

  • Indonesian national;
  • Minimum master’s degree in any field;
  • Preference will be given to an alumnus of a Dutch research university;
  • Proven minimum 5 years’ experience in event, program, and project management and academic networking;
  • Experience in networking with Indonesian governmental agencies;
  • Thorough and proven understanding of the Indonesian and Dutch higher education and research landscape;
  • Excellent English communication skills in speaking and writing. Knowledge of Dutch language is a plus but not a requirement;
  • Strong networking, organizational, and problem-solving skills combined with a proactive attitude;
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with a hands-on mentality;
  • Computer literacy especially in MS office applications, and expertise in budgeting;
  • Willingness to travel domestically as well as abroad.
