Social programme

In addition to a rich academic programme, the 24th International Colloquium on Latin Linguistics also offers an enjoyable social programme.

  • On Monday, there will be a reception at Leiden City Hall.
  • On Wednesday, participants can look forward to a boat tour and cultural activity in Amsterdam.
  • Friday evening brings guided tours and a conference dinner at the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO) in Leiden.
  • On Saturday, there will be an excursion to The Hague, with stops at Beelden aan Zee, Panorama Mesdag, and the Scheveningen Boulevard.
  • During the conference days in Leiden, a pop-up manuscripts exhibition will also take place at the Leiden University Library, accessible to conference participants. 
PhD course (June 6-7, 2027)

The PhD course is intended for young scholars who are either preparing, or have just finished a doctoral dissertation in Latin Linguistics.

The course is coordinated by Olga Spevak (University Toulouse Jean Jaurès).

Topics covered are:

  • New tools for Latin Linguistics: AI vs statistical analysis (Prof. Dominique Longrée, Liège)
  • Latin syntax (Prof. Olga Spevak, Toulouse)
  • Discourse linguistics: the grammar of discourse (Prof. dr. Caroline Kroon, Amsterdam)

Participants are expected to prepare for the course by studying relevant material: during the course, they will perform other research activities. Those performing well will receive a certificate which they may use for their doctoral program at home. The course corresponds to 10 hours of on-site training and 35 hours of preparation (45 hours in total – 1,5 ECTS).
