Shared facilities
The Leiden Institute of Physics offers researchers the use of several facilities.
Scanning Probe Microscopy Laboratory
The LION Scanning Probe Microscopy Facility provides a number of modern Atomic Force Microscopes with several measurement options, advanced modes and multiple accessories. It is available to other departments upon request. In consultation, we can offer support to external academic and industry partners with a service contract.
The laboratory features the following microscopes:
-
1 JPK Nanowizard 3 Ultra Speed AFM/STM
-
1 JPK Nanowizard 4 AFM
-
1 Bruker Multimode AFM/STM with Nanoscope V controller
-
‘Development’ STMs with SoftdB controllers
Measurement options and accessories
The microscopes allow a versatile set of SPM modes/measurements:
STM, Contact AFM, Tapping AFM, Current Sensing AFM, Electric Force Microscopy, Magnetic Force Microscopy, Surface Potential, Peak Force AFM, PF-Tunneling AFM, Piezo Force Microscopy, Quantitative Nanomechanical Property Mapping, Quantitative Imaging (JPK), Advanced Quantitative Imaging (JPK), High-speed imaging (JPK), Closed-loop operation (JPK), Nanolithography (JPK) and Experimental Planner (JPK).
All these modes are possible in both air and liquid. Several accessories are available: a cooling/heating stage, an EC cell, and an environmental chamber.
