Maintenance of the storage environment

Date
Monday 5 October 2026
Time
Location
Universiteit Leiden

The University is carrying out a major upgrade of the storage environment for research and departmental data. This upgrade will strengthen the continuity, reliability and future-readiness of our digital working environment. It will help ensure that these services remain stable, secure and available for research, teaching and university operations in the future. This migration is part of the broader storage infrastructure renewal programme.

To implement this improvement, we will carry out maintenance on Monday 5 October. The work is expected to take approximately two hours.

During the maintenance, we will migrate:

  • J:\ Workgroups
  • J:\ Research
  • J:\ Department
  • The P: drive environment

User profiles will also be updated to ensure that they are compatible with the new infrastructure.

What does this mean for users?

During the maintenance, affected users may temporarily be unable to access the files and storage locations being migrated.

Users may also receive an error message when signing in or out due to the profile update. In most cases, this will be resolved automatically once the profile has been reloaded.

What are the benefits of this upgrade?

This migration will replace parts of the existing storage environment with more modern infrastructure. This will improve the continuity and reliability of our services and provide a stronger foundation for future developments. The result will be a storage environment that is easier to manage, less vulnerable to disruption and better prepared for the University’s needs in the years ahead.

Successful testing

Preparations have been completed, and the tests carried out were successful. We are therefore confident that this migration can be implemented in a controlled manner.

Targeted communication for this phase

This phase affects a specific group of users and services. We will therefore inform those concerned directly by email. This ensures that the relevant information reaches the employees and departments that may be affected by the migration in good time.

For this phase, we have deliberately chosen this targeted approach. We will therefore not use broader communication channels, such as newsletters or staff portals. This allows us to tailor our communication closely to the target group and the expected impact of the maintenance.
