LAPP at NeXt Phase event of The Ocean Cleanup

On 11 May 2017, The Ocean Cleanup revealed a new design for its cleanup system. LAPP was there!

In an industrial area of Utrecht, Boyan Slat of The Ocean Cleanup gave an upbeat presentation of the new design. After showing the detrimental effects of plastic on animals and the environment, Boyan revealed the improved design for cleaning up the North Pacific gyre. The new design is a drifting device and much smaller, but more effective, and therefore easier and cheaper to implement. The Ocean Cleanup can now start, two years ahead, with deploying the first devices, expanding the number in phases. Our LAPP team working on a report for The Ocean Cleanup attended the happening and was able to ask questions to the research team.
