About Healthy Society

The research area "Health and well-being in a healthy society" studies the institutional and behavioral factors that play a role in health and well-being for people of all ages.

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences focuses on the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of societal problems relating to health and well-being. This includes biomedical, social, institutional, and technological aspects of health and well-being. Within this area, our research focuses not only on people who are sick, but also those who are healthy, as well as on vulnerable populations. We study all these people within their own environments, both in the Netherlands and in a global context.

We pay special attention to structural differences in life expectancy and health between various population groups, and to specific challenges in the cities of Leiden and The Hague, through the Leiden Healthy Society Center and the Health Campus The Hague.
